Visit of the Halles district - Montorgueil street and the Cour des Miracles

Let’s venture into one of the oldest districts of Paris, the “Ventre de Paris”, perfectly described by Emile Zola.
In the Middle Ages, the district housed the largest market in the city, where the living and the dead rubbed shoulders: a buzzing fair, a pillory and the Cemetery of the Innocents. We will go through eight centuries of history with:

• the assassination of Henri IV
• the famous Cemetery of the Innocents
• the Halles de Baltard, which remained in the heart of the capital for more than eight centuries, inseparable from the history of Paris,
• the curious Astronomical Column of Catherine de Medici
• the royal church of Saint-Eustache, recognized for its musical tradition and organ concerts,
• the picturesque rue Montorgueil,
• to end with the story of the Court of Miracles immortalized by Victor Hugo in his famous novel "Les Misérables"

Hélène Bajan will be your guide for this discovery tour of a district rich in history.

Meet at 2:30 p.m. at the Châtelet metro exit, rue Sainte-Opportune.

You can register until November 5.
